Lack of confidence is probably one of the biggest problems for photographers of all levels. Social media makes it especially hard to gain confidence as we quickly fall into the comparison trap. There is a lot of talent out there.
Here me. The very fact that you are reading this article means that you need to be here taking pictures. Your creative gifts need to be shared with the world. I want to help you become more confident as a photographer and I think these three tips will help.

Trust your unique vision and creative gifts. Like really trust. No two photographers see the world the same way. If you have ever taken part in a group photoshoot at a workshop or one of my retreats it’s fascinating to see how 20 photographers who are in the exact same place at the exact same time photographing the exact same subjects will take 20 completely unique photographs. You have to trust your magic. The sooner you lean into your uniqueness the sooner you will become more confident. You may need to to take a social media and photographer stalking break. Spend the next month focusing on yourself and your craft. This will make you more confident.

Practice. Duh right? Listen up… you can’t rush your come up. You have to put in the time and allow yourself the space to get better. I am good at photographing families because I photograph about 100 families a year for thirteen years!! Do the math. That is a ton of practice. If you are new, take your camera everywhere. Take photos of everyone you can get in front of your lens. If you are ready to launch a business do model calls and practice with real people for free. Practice in all kind of light and all kinds of locations. The more you practice the more confident you will be.

Take photography workshops or classes. Online photography workshops are super affordable and can often be done at your own pace. There is a wealth of knowledge out there. In person photography workshops are amazing because you get real time feedback and live instruction, but they are usually a bit more pricy. You will never regret investing in your craft and you will feel more confident after each and every class you take.
You must start believing in yourself. Nobody can make you more confident. You have to put in the work. You have a place at this table and I am so glad you are here.
