There’s more than one way to run a photography business.
There’s more than one way to take photos, market your brand, or set your pricing. And yet, it’s so easy to forget that truth, especially when you’re surrounded by talented, inspiring people in this industry.

I just returned home from WPPI, and I want to tell you something real. No matter how long you’ve been a photographer, 15 years, or just 15 days it’s incredibly easy to fall into the comparison trap. You see someone’s stunning work, impressive following, or booming success, and that little voice starts whispering:
“She’s doing it better. Maybe I should do it like her.”
“His lighting is so professional, I’m doing it all wrong.”
“She’s booked solid and making bank. Maybe my way doesn’t work.”
That little voice? That’s Impostor Syndrome. And it has a way of crashing the party and sitting itself right at the head of the table, speaking up with very persuasive (and very untrue) advice.
Even 15 Years In… It Still Shows Up
That week, surrounded by photographers I admire, I found myself slipping.
I caught those thoughts creeping in:
“Wait, why am I even here?”
“I don’t use artificial light.”
“I don’t photograph weddings.”
“I’m not sponsored by XYZ.”
That voice doesn’t care how much experience you have or what success you’ve earned. It doesn’t care if you’re a speaker or a beginner. It shows up, uninvited and loud. But here’s what I’ve learned over time: when that voice shows up, it’s also an opportunity.
It’s a chance to turn inward, to reconnect with the heart and soul of your photography business mindset, to remember what really matters.

Why I’m Still Here – My Photography Business Mindset!
I don’t do it like everyone else. And that’s the point.
I built this business on the belief that lifestyle and family photographers belong here, even in an industry that sometimes overlooks us. I’m here because I know what I do matters.
I’m here because I’m passionate about helping others build photography businesses that are both meaningful and profitable, businesses that reflect who they are, not who they think they should be.
That unwanted dinner guest, Impostor Syndrome? I thank it. I let it remind me who I am. And then I show it the door.
You Get to Do It Your Way
If you’ve ever doubted yourself…
If you’ve ever looked around and thought, “I should do it like them”…
I want you to know: you’re not alone.
Your path doesn’t need to look like anyone else’s. In fact, it shouldn’t.
You belong here, exactly as you are. You’re building something beautiful and real. So the next time comparison creeps in, remind yourself why you started—and then tell that voice it’s time to go.
I’m so glad you’re here.
